Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the operator of the Bitget exchange, and said it will order the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to block access to the platform from Dec 5.
The SEC said Bitget offered crypto trading services in Thailand between 2022 and 2025, charged fees and promoted its services in Thai on websites and social media, activities that breach the country’s digital‑asset business licence regime.
The order will cover Bitget’s website, related domains and its mobile app, and the regulator urged Thai users to move any assets held on the platform before the deadline.
Under a 2025 decree, the ministry can restrict unlicensed crypto platforms to protect investors and combat financial crime. Operators must obtain a licence from the SEC to provide exchange, brokerage or custodial services.
The Defiant reported that seller GMO Internet has delayed a planned share transfer of a local exchange to Nov 30 while it works through Thai regulatory procedures, indicating that licensing issues are affecting other market participants.
Bitget did not respond to a request for comment, according to Cointelegraph.
The complaint has been lodged with the Economic Crime Suppression Division for investigation; prosecutors will decide whether to bring charges and courts will determine any criminal liability.
Traders using Bitget will need to withdraw or transfer holdings before Dec 5, and may turn to licensed domestic exchanges such as Bitkub or international platforms that have secured Thai approval.
