Ripple and Robinhood expanded their partnership on Tuesday to bring the RLUSD stablecoin to Robinhood’s 28.6 million funded customers. The companies announced the deal at Ripple’s Swell 2026 conference in New York, marking a deeper integration between the crypto payments firm and the trading platform.
The RLUSD token is already live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. Under the new agreement, the stablecoin will be added to the main Robinhood app later this year. Robinhood also intends to use the token on the XRP Ledger to settle trades for its institutional customers, providing a digital alternative to traditional settlement methods.
Stablecoins are digital tokens pegged to the value of a fiat currency, such as the US dollar. They allow traders to move in and out of volatile crypto assets without returning to the traditional banking system. RLUSD was launched in December 2024 and has reached a market capitalisation of $2.57bn, with nearly $1bn of that issued on the XRP Ledger.
Beyond customer-facing services, Robinhood will adopt the Ripple Treasury system to manage its internal global cash and liquidity operations. This includes automating payment processing, forecasting future cash flows, and managing intercompany transactions. The move integrates Ripple’s technology into the core financial infrastructure of the brokerage.
The partnership also extends to Ripple Prime, which currently provides financing services to Bitstamp by Robinhood. Bitstamp plans to introduce perpetual futures trading on its platform later this year. Robinhood, which reported its customer numbers as of August, provides a significant distribution network for Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin.
The announcement follows news that Ripple received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a national trust bank on Monday. This new institution will manage the reserves backing RLUSD and offer digital asset custody. A separate New York-regulated subsidiary will continue to handle the issuance of the stablecoin itself.
Ripple and Robinhood have not disclosed the specific date for the retail app launch. The companies said the integration of treasury services would happen alongside the rollout of the stablecoin to institutional clients. The deal follows Ripple's efforts to expand the utility of the XRP Ledger beyond its native XRP token.
