Asset manager Janus Henderson and tokenization platform Centrifuge launched JQQQ, a blockchain-based fund tracking the Nasdaq-100 Index on Stellar, on Tuesday. The fund offers eligible professional investors outside the United States exposure to the benchmark, Cointelegraph reported.
JQQQ uses Centrifuge’s tokenization infrastructure and operates under a licensing agreement with Nasdaq. It is structured as a segregated portfolio of a British Virgin Islands investment company and provides indirect exposure to the Nasdaq-100, according to CoinDesk.
The launch expands Janus Henderson’s institutional on-chain strategies beyond US Treasuries and structured credit into equity-index exposure. The firm's on-chain investment offerings now exceed $1 billion, CoinDesk said.
This move is part of a wider trend on Wall Street to bring traditional investments onto blockchain rails. It also shows a growing distinction between funds issued on-chain by their managers and third-party tokens created without the underlying companies’ involvement, CoinDesk reported.
The launch also expands Stellar’s growing tokenization business. The Layer-1 blockchain currently ranks fourth globally by distributed real-world asset value, with about $3.8 billion in tokenized assets, according to RWA.xyz data cited by Cointelegraph.
Such tokenized funds could eventually allow investors to use their holdings as collateral for loans or move them between blockchain-based financial applications, CoinDesk said. Sean Wasserman, Nasdaq’s head of index product management, said demand for exposure to established, transparent benchmarks continues to grow as investors explore digital infrastructure.
Despite the launch, Centrifuge’s investment portal indicates that subscriptions for JQQQ are not yet open, The Defiant reported.
