Coinbase sets Oct 30 deadline for European users to withdraw 14 restricted tokens
European retail users must move tokens including USDT and PYUSD by Oct. 30 or face automatic conversion to USDC under MiCA compliance rules.

Key takeaways
- 1Coinbase set an Oct. 30 deadline for EEA retail users to withdraw 14 restricted assets.
- 2Affected assets include USDT, PYUSD, USD1, DAI, and PAXG, alongside nine other tokens.
- 3Remaining balances will undergo a one-time automatic conversion into USDC at prevailing market rates.
- 4Deposits made after the deadline will not be credited or converted automatically.
Coinbase gave retail customers in the European Economic Area until Oct. 30 to withdraw 14 restricted digital assets before converting remaining balances into USD Coin. The exchange said the deadline applies to retail users across the region as it enforces European Union rules under the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation.
The 14 restricted assets comprise Tether's USDT, PayPal's PYUSD, World Liberty Financial's USD1, MakerDAO's DAI, and Paxos Gold's PAXG. The list also includes PAX, GUSD, GYEN, BUST, UST, RAI, MUSD, USDS, and TGBP. Coinbase has already halted buying, selling, and conversion options for all 14 tokens for affected retail accounts in the region.
Customers who want to maintain control of the restricted holdings must transfer them to supported external wallets before the Oct. 30 deadline. After that date, Coinbase will automatically execute a one-time conversion of any remaining balances into USDC at prevailing market rates. If USDC is unavailable, the exchange said it will select another supported digital asset or fiat currency for the swap.
Conversions will take place at market rates calculated at the time of execution rather than prices recorded prior to the deadline. Coinbase said the mandatory swaps may generate taxable events under local tax laws in individual European member states. Account holders may also see a temporary reduction in displayed balances while the exchange processes the conversions.
Deposits of the 14 restricted tokens arriving after Oct. 30 will not be credited to user accounts or included in the automatic conversion. Coinbase said recovering unsupported deposits is not guaranteed and depends on the specific token and underlying blockchain network. The restriction applies to external wallet transfers, including those from wallets previously linked to Coinbase accounts.
Coinbase cited MiCA rules governing stablecoin issuers for the restrictions, following the end of the regulatory transition period on July 1, 2026, which European regulators chose not to extend. Coinbase Luxembourg operates under MiCA authorisation from Luxembourg's financial regulator, allowing the company to serve retail clients across the European Economic Area.
Other European platforms have taken similar steps under MiCA rules, with Revolut previously ending support for USDT following the July transition deadline. Coinbase said it will continue reviewing the restricted assets and may restore support if their issuers achieve MiCA compliance, though any future policy change will not reverse conversions already completed.
